It's May, it's May, the month of "yes you may"....
And, more importantly, it's Beltaine. The honest, passionate, whole-hearted celebration of life doing what it does best; living. It's so painfully, potently sad on such a joyous occassion we are sowing the seeds of grief and hatred among a people who've had many times their fair share. I can't help but wonder; how many women and children of another country are worth killing to save one American soldiers life? I mean, where is the metric for that? How can we justify killing women and children at a rate of nearly 100 to 1 for our own casualties. And please, don't give me the whole 'self defense' bit. The British, who are there with the American troops, are not having to gun them down, quite literally, by the dozen. If we are so hated that we have to kill about six people a day, not soldiers mind you, but just people, just to stay alive....
WHY DON'T WE JUST LEAVE?!? At what point does *shooting people* start being recognized as, perhaps, not completely helpful?
If our intentions were indeed noble we would turn it over to someone, anyone, else. We would foot a big chunk of the expense; I mean, we did blow the hell out of their country and kill thousands of their people, men, women and children, level their homes and destroy their infrastructure. However, we also must, obviously to anyone with a serious desire to see this result in a genuine and lasting peace, leave. Get out. Leave the reconstruction to someone else. We've been abject failures at nation building every single time we've ever tried. How many cultures do we need to bugger over before we realize this is a skill we may, perhaps, be lacking? To drive the point home, our interference and then complete lack of skill at trying to help undo the damage we did is the precise *reason* these people hate Americans to begin with. Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, all through the middle east we have a reputation for shafting their nations over without a single genuine clue as to how their culture works or what they want.
However, all that ranting aside.... the Pocket Shrub is doomed where re-election is concerned. You can fake all the polls you want; no other political group will call you on it because they all do it. But when it comes down to the actual voting... well, I guess I just have more faith in the human race than to do something so stupid as to put this diminutive nutcase in for a second term.
